Job Title: Operator Engineer

Hours: 2pm – 10pm Monday to Friday

Department: Pouch

Reports To: Production Manager – Pouch

Prepared Date: December 2020


Our client is a British pet food company where their customers and their pets are at the heart of everything they do. We’re looking for a bright, bubbly and enthusiastic person to join their Production team. You’ll be working in a small, friendly team to manufacture products on the pouch production line. The main purpose of this role is to ensure machines operate correctly and at optimal levels to meet production, quality, safety and efficiency standards.


To achieve production targets, whilst ensuring procedures and quality standards are maintained

Ensure the manufacturing plan is adhered to

Monitor stock levels during the shift and ensure that at least 4 hours’ worth of appropriate packaging is available for the oncoming shift

To ensure effective handovers with fellow operators

Operate machines, ensuring machines are set to sizes required for production

Ensure a proactive approach to Health & Safety and that all legislation is met

Ensure that Company Policies and Procedures are adhered to

To attend meetings as required

Ensure cross-functional communication of issues, specifically Quality Assurance and Engineering

Ensure prompt reporting of faults, utilising the Safety and Known Job Card system

Assist in the implementation and creation of new and improved procedures

To be fully aware at all times of the process position

Ensure that hygiene and housekeeping are at the required standard

Ensure that all maintenance, lubrication and cleaning schedules are met

Ensure machines are set for the optimum output

Liaise with the Team Leader/ Shift Manager to ensure that any on the job training of staff is achieved

Complete all appropriate documentation as required

Ensure correct waste segregation

5 GCSE’s or equivalent including Maths and English

Intermediate I.T. Skills

Relevant Manufacturing / Production Qualification or experience

Problem solving skills to support fault finding

Strong leadership and communication skills

Experience working as part of a team in a busy manufacturing environment

Experience of operating a production line

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Experience of working in an FMCG environment

Ability to work in a safe manner and considers the safety of others around them

Ability to adhere to quality standards

Excellent English communication skills – both verbal and writte
