Orion Automation are currently in partnership with a Somerset-based pioneer in the instrumentation and telemetry industry who are experiencing significant and consistent growth.

As a result of this strong business growth, there is a requirement to recruit for a Lead Electronics Engineer to join their growing team.

The Lead Electronics Engineer position requires in-depth knowledge and experience in a range of electronics disciplines to lead our client’s small team of engineers to deliver comprehensive solutions to complex challenges.

The Lead Electronics Engineer will:

  • Understand, maintain, and expand the capability of the OFDM telemetry system and the communications bus protocols
  • Lead the development of embedded firmware in small microprocessors and FPGAs
  • Lead the design of a wide range of electronics hardware in both analogue and digital domains, including DC-DC converters, motor controllers and data acquisition components
  • Assist in the creation of design requirements and specification documents to ensure that we deliver products that satisfy the technical and commercial requirements of customers.
  • Identify technical risks in new product development and propose mitigation strategies
  • Actively participate in design reviews
  • Provide technical coaching and guidance to other engineers
  • Lead in the development, implementation, and improvement of our internal design process
  • Represent the development team in client meetings

Experience required:

  • Ideally 5+ years as an Electronics Engineer or similar role developing new products.
  • 3+ years in a technical or project lead role
  • Analogue and digital hardware design and integration
  • Embedded software
  • Digital signal processing
  • Working with microprocessors and microcontroller systems
  • Programming languages such as C and VHDL
  • Data acquisition systems and analysis
  • Multilayer PCB design and layout
  • Schematic capture

Skills & Qualifications

  • BA or higher in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • Strong understanding of OFDM communications theory
  • Demonstrated experience designing and testing power electronics, motor control, high speed electronics, analogue, digital and sensing technology.
  • Good understanding of end-to-end electronics development with specific focus on hardware design and integration with high competence in schematic capture, PCB layout software, simulation tools to support design calculations, tolerance analysis and documentation
  • Demonstrated ability in leading a team from early design stages to final implementation
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an analytical and proactive approach
  • Highly motivated and autonomous, with good communication and presentation skills
  • Strong command of written and spoken English
