VSL Systems (UK) is on a growth trajectory and seeks an experienced Engineer for our Civil Works / Recurrent Business team. With projects scattered across the UK, adaptability to different geographical locations is essential. We provide travel and accommodation support.

In this role, technical prowess is just one aspect of success. From working on highways and street projects with traffic management considerations to executing bridge repairs including bearing and joint replacement, concrete repairs, drainage, and waterproofing, your expertise will be invaluable. Experience in post-tensioning would be exceptional and highly valued. This role offers a dynamic blend of technical expertise and strategic thinking, providing an opportunity for continuous learning and professional growth in the field of civil engineering and infrastructure maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works on a construction project in the execution phase
  • Is in charge of a section or part of a section of the project
  • Participates in defining objectives on technical, financial and human issues
  • Helps in detailed preparation of the structures construction schedule, technical options, drafting of documents. Works in close collaboration with Site supervisory staff
  • Participates in the consultation & appointment of suppliers & sub-contractors
  • Contributes to the financial viability study of the project comparative summaries of calls for tender, etc.
  • Coordinates the works and gets them executed through in-house production or supervises until handover, in accordance with the contract.
  • Takes part in checking the progress schedules and, if necessary, modifies them along the lines suggested by the Senior Site Engineer
  • Has a role in managing the site staff, ensuring Health & Safety rules are respected (regular inspections), manages equipment and materials
  • Under the authority of the Senior Site Engineer, deals with the clients (schedule and quality) as well as technical testing
  • Takes part in the Sustainable Development policy
  • Contributes to contractual matters (schedules) and takes part in site reporting

Required skills

  • Leads, coordinates, negotiates and knows how to take decisions when necessary
  • Has technical knowledge and is profit minded
  • Methodical, has authority, available, attentive, objective, tenacious and responsible
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Internship/work experience / VIE or some experience
