Your job role is as a registered nurse with a particular focus as a scrub nurse practitioner and in assisting the clinical team in pre and post operative care. You will take a pivotal role in assisting the whole clinical team to ensure that theatre lists and patient experience is well organised, prepared and runs to time.

In addition to the principal duties which will occupy much of your time, you will be expected to assist with other responsibilities as a part of the clinical team. These might include accurate tracking of controlled drugs, maintaining sufficient medical related stock levels, other audits, decontamination of instruments, and otherwise ensuring CQC standards are maintained.

Main Duties:

  • Assemble, check and prepare the appropriate surgical equipment and consumables for procedures.
  • Coordinate the use of the supplies and equipment during a list ensuring the equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner
  • Act in the role of the scrub practitioner, undertaking all activities within that role in a professional and proficient manner. Including turn around of theatre and cleaning
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, providing appropriate surgical instrumentation and equipment.
  • Take responsibility to ensure all surgical equipment is disposed of correctly including ensuring appropriate decontamination and sterilisation of reusable equipment is carried out and can be evidenced.
  • Monitor consumables, replenishing as required and confirming reordering requirements as appropriate.
  • Ensure all documentation for traceability is effectively completed
  • Help to control and minimise the risk of cross infection by following the organisations’ Uniform Policy, and AFPP guidelines 2011, all procedures, policies and guidelines for the maintenance of a clean working environment, including decontamination and sterilisation of equipment.
  • Admitting and discharging of patients following local anaesthetic.

Criteria:

  • Qualifications required – RGN minimum of 3 Years experience in a hospital setting
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Ability to scrub
  • Held Pre-assessment & Wound Care clinics
  • Provide practical wound care advice
  • Phlebotomist desirable (not essential)
