Public Health Specialist

The position of Public Health Specialist is a senior leadership role within the Public Health and Wellbeing Department (subject to change due to organisational restructure) of a local authority in the South of England. This is a remote working opportunity so you can work from home. The role of the locum post is to provide additional strategic leadership in the local authority's response to Covid-19. The post holder will lead key areas of delivery of their Local Outbreak Control Plan and wider response to the public health impacts of the pandemic. They will also provide leadership for broader, related health protection responsibilities. The post holder will be required to work across the health and social care system, working in collaboration and building relationships with national, regional and local organisations and communities to improve and protect health.

Core Competency Areas:

The post holder will provide strategic leadership and drive a public heath approach to improve health and wellbeing outcomes of the residents and reduce inequalities particularly in relation to the covid 19 pandemic. In delivering that responsibility, the post holder is expected to demonstrate expertise across the full range of relevant competencies as set out by the Faculty of Public Health and where required, take responsibility for resolving operational issues. In negotiation with the DPH (&/or the Council), the post holder may be asked to take on responsibilities that are underpinned by any of the FPH competencies. The post holder will be expected to maintain both this general expertise as well as develop topic-based expertise as required by the DPH.
