Mechanical Design Engineer electric motors/drives – Northampton – Motorsport
This amazing PERMANENT role for a mechanical design engineer of motors/motor integration is a unique opportunity to showcase your expertise and skills with a world leading Formula 1 business in Northamptonshire. This role will be working on formula e and advanced engineering projects for performance road cars. You will be a key member within the team and the person that secures this position will be crucial to the success of this dynamic company on its race/road/hybrid projects.
What you will do
The design engineer will be responsible for electric motor design and system level integration within a vehicle. Specifically
Defining the mechanical design specification of electric powertrains at a system level – considering benefits and compromises of the full powertrain
Defining concept and detailed specification of electric motors.
Innovating and delivering, solutions to difficult problems
Ideally (but not essentially) Be experienced in 2D and 3D Motor design software (preferably MotorCAD and Opera) and other key simulation/analysis packages
What you will need:
2i minimum in mechanical or electrical engineering
Mechanical design of electric motors or worked closely with mechanical engineers.
CATIA is preferred but other CAD systems can be considered
Practical experience of analysing performance, safety and failures of electric motors.
Knowledge of manufacturing methods related to electric motor design.
Knowledge of materials used in electric motors and the fundamentals defining their performance and limitations.
Testing methodologies of electric powertrains.
Perhaps some understanding of Software and control systems of electric powertrains.
