Legal Secretary – In-House Property

My client is recruiting for a Legal Secretary to join their property department in Southend-On-Sea, Essex.
The firm act as primary agent for one of the UK’s largest private residential freeholders; the successful candidate will be working as part of a busy in-house legal team who specialises in landlord and tenant law and property law.
Main functions:
• Oversight of a key business project varying a high volume of leases.
• Liaising with solicitors and leaseholders to verify applications. Drafting documents for service on the other side, answering any queries in response and progressing the file through to completion.
• Providing assistance to the wider legal team.
• Audio typing, transposing manuscript documents, engrossing documentation, copy typing, opening new files, preparing files for completion, preparing and distributing standard documentation, uploading court directions, maintaining diaries, dealing with post-completion correspondence and general case management.
• Assisting with the invoicing of fees on completed matters.
• General research tasks where required.
• Archiving historic files
• Assisting with incoming phone calls and queries as part of the wider company.
Attributes required:
• Previous experience working as a legal secretary within a property or leasehold reform department.
• Property law (conveyancing/Landlord and Tenant) knowledge needed.
• Highly organised.
• Good attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Capable of prioritising workload.
• Audio typing skills.
• Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Polite phone manner.
• Good interpersonal skills allowing the individual to liaise and correspond with various other teams and departments.
• Proactive – actively looks to improve processes.
Education:
• Law graduate or Legal secretarial background – relevant secretarial qualification (CILEx /City & Guilds/ Diploma for Legal Secretaries).
• 3 A-C grade A-levels (or equivalent).
