Communication Support Worker

Are you trained in cued speech or do you hold a Level 3 qualification in British Sign Language ? If so we would like to talk to you today ! We are currently recruiting on behalf of a fully inclusive secondary school in Bristol who are looking to appoint a Communication Support Worker to support the learning, educational progress and inclusion of a profoundly deaf child. The post holder will support the student's access to the curriculum and participation in the life of the school by combining BSL with other methods to provide effective communication.

It is essential that the successful candidate:

* Is trained in cued speech or has British Sign Language (BSL) qualification to a minimum qualification of level 3 and is able to communicate at a level 6 standard
* has the ability to combine sign language and other methods to provide total communication with the student
* is able to communicate effectively and clearly with a range of staff, students, their families and carers
* has good knowledge of behaviour management, including issues specifically relating to deaf children
* has an ability to adapt materials and resources for lessons
* is able to contribute to and identify the most appropriate strategies to support and meet the deaf student's needs

This is a fixed term position for one year from 01/09/2020 to 31/08/2021, working 37 hours per week, term time only plus 5 Inset days. Salary is based on grade 12 – 17, full time equivalent of £21,589 – £23,836 per annum. The actual pro rata salary for 37 hours per week, term time only plus 5 days will be £18,486 – £20,410 per annum.
