Civil Design Engineer

The Company

eSmart Networks is the leading provider of infrastructure for electric vehicle charging, renewable grid connections and large industrial connection throughout the UK. As part of Nexus Infrastructure plc, a provider of essential infrastructure services, eSmart Networks was created in 2017 to being together the groups existing high quality expertise and skill around electricity grid connections (as an Independent Connections Provider), electricity infrastructure and civil engineering to create a company focused on the EV, renewables and large industrial connections.

The company has grown rapidly since 2017 with a large number of exciting projects in the pipeline. To help deliver these projects, we are seeking to expand our highly skilled and experienced technical team.

The Role

The Civil Design Engineer role will report to our Senior Civil Design Engineer and will play an integral role providing conceptual civil designs for the tendering team, completing detailed civil design work for electricity infrastructure projects from Low Voltage up to 132kV including the management of design subcontractors. From budget design to operational handover, the Civil Design Engineer ensure that designs are technically and commercially compliant and delivered within agreed timescales. This emerging market space is well suited for design engineers wanting to further develop their existing skills in designing the infrastructure to these new technological advances, support for professional development is available and actively supported.

Responsibilities & Duties

The main responsibilities of the role are:

Preparation of compliant and high-quality civil designs for ICP connections across all voltage levels
Provide innovative civil engineering solutions to enable grid connections in a timely manner
Ensure civil designs are compliant with legislation, industry and adopting utility specifications and all HSEQ requirements
Ensuring civil designs are technically and commercially compliant and delivered within agreed timescales
Completing detailed quality assurance checks on civil engineering work elements such as reinforced concrete & structural steelwork
Undertake the role of Designer' under the CDM regulations
Provide excellent service to our customers
Liaise and problem solve with other engineering disciplines
Providing Civil Engineering support within eSmart Networks

Skills & Knowledge

Experience of providing technical support in developing civil engineering solutions
Understanding of responsibilities under CDM regulations
Previous project management experience working on utilities or major infrastructure projects
Knowledge of UK Transmission & Distribution industry
Strong general IT skills including CAD
Strong stakeholder management skills
Effective communicator
Self-starter and able to work independently
Highly organised with attention to detail
Experience & Qualifications

Degree qualified in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in a construction related environment;
Proven experience in the design of reinforced concrete and structural steelwork
Experience of civil engineering designs for electricity infrastructure an advantage but not essential
Track record in similar role
Location within the UK is flexible.
