Our client is a well-established manufacturer of bespoke solutions. They are seeking an experienced Engineering Buyer to join their Supply Chain team.

The Role

The Purchasing Engineer plays a pivotal role in our manufacturing operations, ensuring the timely procurement of high-quality components at the most competitive prices. This individual is responsible for meticulously reviewing the Bill of Materials (BOM), placing orders for stock and products necessary for jobs, and maintaining robust communication with the production and engineering departments. The goal is to ensure that our production lines are never halted due to a lack of materials and that the components we use meet our stringent quality standards while also being cost-effective.

Key Responsibilities:

Bill of Materials (BOM) Review: Carefully analyse the BOM for each project to identify the required materials and components. Ensure accuracy in specifications and quantities to prevent any discrepancies during procurement.

Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers. Evaluate suppliers based on cost, quality, and delivery performance. Conduct negotiations to achieve the best possible prices without compromising on quality.

Order Placement and Tracking: Efficiently place orders for the necessary stock and products as per the job requirements. Monitor the status of orders and manage deliveries to ensure materials arrive on time and in full, avoiding any production delays.

Quality Assurance: Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to ensure that all purchased components meet our high-quality standards. Address and resolve any quality issues with suppliers promptly.

Inventory Management: Collaborate with the inventory management team to optimize stock levels, ensuring a balance between minimizing inventory costs and meeting production needs.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Maintain constant communication with the production and engineering departments to understand their material needs and any changes in project specifications. Adapt procurement plans accordingly to support seamless production processes.

Market Analysis: Regularly analyse market trends and material costs. Stay informed about new suppliers, products, and technologies that can enhance quality and reduce costs.

Reporting: Prepare and present reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, and supplier performance to management.

The Candidate

Qualifications in supply chain such as CIPS is highly beneficial.

Proven experience in a purchasing role within a manufacturing environment.

Strong negotiation skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective supplier relationships.

Excellent analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to make data-driven decisions.

Proficient in the use in an ERP or MRP system.

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively across departments.
