This is a specialist SEN/SEMH Learning Support Assistant role for a graduate who is has aspiration in, but not limited to, Youth Justice, Probation, Parole, Social and Criminal Justice.

Huge focus on Restorative Practices combined with sincere compassion and ownership from the staffing team that is in place. Within this role, you will be developing real relationships through modelling, relationships that will take time to build, all as a base for you to also build academic attainment as well.

A large part of this role is to listen to your students, restoratively aid them and help improve school life for the better!
You will see the nuances and practical challenges that anxiety plays on the children’s school and how they identify – you will be building a community and providing safe spaces for you students – the days of a punitive approach, should be over.
GSL are seeking a passionate and dedicated Graduate Learning Support Assistant to work within an outstanding Alternative Provision, based in a mainstream Secondary school, in Brentwood. The provision focuses on phasing and reintroducing children of all ages, Year 7 to year 13, back to into their education and school.
With the effects of Covid 19 still incredibly prevalent, it has had an huge impact on many of the children, destroying routines and exacerbating the anxiety of the most vulnerable students.
All have an EHCP for their mental health and impacts of previous trauma(s) primarily. There’s a strong chance some of the children will also have associated SEN and Mental Health challenges, Autism, OCD, ADHD or Hyperactivity challenges, for example.
The Alternative Provision has a diverse range of behaviour and learning levels, up and down the school. The school really reflects the diversity and Socioeconomics of the area, considering all elements from early childhood trauma to Covid and the continued cost of living crisis and impact on the children and their education.
If you aspire within Criminal, Youth or Social Justice for example, this is a good base and role in which to start with. This LSA role brings out holistic, therapeutic, and restorative qualities and skills, focussing on building relationships first. Without that, you can’t hope to achieve anything academically or socially.

**Aiding children who are missing huge chunks of their schooling and making it harder for them to come back, their anxiety continually building
**Alternative Provision, Primary and Secondary aged – tailored curriculum for each student through positive reinforcement and restorative processes
**Classes of 3-6, no more than 6 due to the nature of learning and children’s learning levels, a very personalised education
**Sport, Technology, Creative subjects and pursuits are promoted, finding what sparks joy for the students
**First 2 weeks are always treated as a nice trial period, allows you to assess if the school is the right environment for you – There is no shame if not, you need to know!
**Positive reinforcement with each student, all through a restorative approach
**School also has provision for ADHD, OCD, Dyslexia
**Focus on core subjects and Key Skills within the Core Subjects, focus on building the independence and social skills of each child
